ISD Projects

6th Grade ELA Course Storyboard

This case study is focusing on Learner Group A. Learners in group A are more tactile, hands on learners. These learners can become bored easily with repetitive tasks and can be easily distracted by outside influences. This group enjoys problem solving and enjoys working with peers in groups and collaborating. Group A learners are proficient with technology, art materials, multimedia resources, and hands-on activities. According to the case study, group A learners “They have experience using technology and often teach other students new tools or tips within apps and technologies they use in the classroom”

Universal Learning Design

For multiple means of action and expression, students can build an avatar of their fictional character to help bring this character to life. The avatar the students create will then become the navigator for walking the students through the steps to write their fictional story.

For multiple means of representation, the narrating avatar will read aloud any text while also having closed captions. Any glossary, terms, or vocabulary words will be accented in another text color, bold, and underlined to encourage students to click to read definition or explanation. The use of graphics and images will be used to help describe certain terms or words.

This e-learning course is broken down into smaller steps to keep the learners engaged.

Step one is to create an avatar (like in Snapchat) then create the characters background before moving onto plot building. Step two is plot building where the students will learn the term plot, see examples of strong vs. weak plots, and conflict/ resolution within a plot. Step 3 students will write the base line for their characters plot and include a conflict and resolution. Then the students can move forward to learning about story sequence, sequence words, story building with beginning, middle, and end. Step 4 students will first write the intro paragraph, including the main idea, introducing the character, introducing the conflict and plot. Step 5 students will write the middle paragraph which will include background information and resolution to the conflict. Step 6 students will write the end paragraph, conclusion paragraph, to bring a close to the story and plot that will include the conflict and resolution. Finally, last step, students will publish their blog story for their classmates to read and interact with.

ADDIE Model

When refining the e-learning solution, I want to consider what I know about the target learners from information I gathered for the empathy map and learner persona. I know the target learners in this group are more tactile, creative, hands on learners. These learners can become bored easily with repetitive tasks and can be easily distracted by outside influences. This group enjoys problem solving, using their creativity, enjoys working with peers in groups and collaborating. Group A learners are proficient with technology, art materials, multimedia resources, and hands-on activities.

The End

This e-learning course will break down the writing planning process in smaller bite sized steps. This e-learning program would include an AI chat bot in the form of the student's avatar to help guide, answer questions, and offer feedback during the active writing portion.  Imagine Grammarly meets Chatgpt except it isn’t going to do the work for you. Like spell check or Grammarly, it will underline mistakes and misspellings and offer feedback for correction without giving the answer. The students will be getting instant feedback from the avatar.
